‘Baby Lace’ is a delicate laceleaf maple with extra small leaves. These leaves actually get smaller in age until they are the size of a thumbnail! Its leaves emerge orange and red in spring, quickly changing to green for the summer. Fall colors are orange-red to pink-red. This cultivar is vigorous but dwarf, only growing to 3 feet. ‘Baby Lace’ forms a small, dense shrub that is great for bonsai or small gardens. Rick Rey of the Delaware Valley Agricultural School found ‘Baby Lace’ in the early 1980s as a witches’ broom, and was named by Edward Rodd of Raraflora Nursery in Kinterfield, Pennsylvania.
