Dongkui Yangmei- Myrica rubra

Chinese bayberry or Chinese strawberry.   Dongkui Yangmei FEMALE clone These are female clones from a newly selected “Dongkui” Yangmei (Myrica rubra).  This variety boasts an exceptionally vigorous tree that yields large fruits, approximately 3 cm in diameter and weighing 20 grams each.  The ripe fruits exhibit a striking purple-black to red coloration and offer a juicy, intensely flavored balance of sweetness and tartness.  In China’s primary growing regions (zone 9), these fruits typically mature from late June to early July. For optimal growth, apply a fertilizer with an N:P:K ratio of 15:10:20 during the vegetative growing stage.  Switch to a high- potash fertilizer with an N:P:K ratio of 2:1:8 during the fruit development period.  Importantly, never use potassium chloride (muriate of potash, KCl); potassium sulfate is recommended instead.
