Acer palmatum Kurenai jishi

‘Kurenai jishi’ is similar to ‘Shishigashira’ with its crinkled leaves.  This dense, dwarf shrub emerges red in spring, changing to green with a hint of red for summer.  Fall brings yellow and red.  Discovered by Masayoshi Yano from Japan.  ‘Kurenai jishi’ may reach 3 feet in ten years.
