Acer palmatum Higasayama
'Higasayama' is a kaleidoscope of colors especially in early spring when leaves open to reds, pinks, and cream. Light green veins are bordered by a strong green and edged in cream with a hint of red and pink. Variegations may not emerge on young plants until they are 2 years old. Fall colors are orange, yellow, and sometimes red. 'Higasayama' is also known as 'Hikasayama'. The name means "umbrella mountain". Its vigorous growth habit is narrow and upright. 'Higasayama' makes a dazzling specimen in any partially shaded garden.
