Acer palmatum Kamagata

'Kamagata' has green leaves which are edged in red in spring changing to a solid green for summer.  Fall display is shades of yellow, orange, and red.  This delicate appearing cultivar is actually very hardy, tolerating temperatures of 0 deg. F in winter and full sun in hot, dry sites in summer.  'Kamagata' was introduced by J.D. Vertrees of Maplewood Nursery.  Its growth habit is upright and bushy.  The leaves grow in tufts, giving it a natural "bonsai" look without pruning!  May reach 6 feet in ten years.
